Bankfield & Leapers Wood quarries produce a range of Limestone aggregates for sale across the North West of England.

TPS have worked with Tarmac since 2017, initially on a trial basis at Bankfield Quarry, and are now the only contract crushing service that Tarmac uses for production of all aggregates at Bankfield Quarry, with further services being provided to Leapers Wood Quarry in Carnforth.

Description:

The Environment Agency and its partners are working together to develop the Preston and South Ribble Flood Risk Management Scheme (PSR FRMS). This scheme will provide flood risk mitigation for communities from Broadgate in Preston up towards Higher Walton – helping to protect around 5,000 residential properties and businesses.

Phase 2b in Penwortham, comprises of a new flood defence made up of piled flood walls and improved embankments as well as heavy duty rock amour reinforcement where required.

F Rudd & Sons is a Tomato distributor based in Knutsford, Cheshire. As part of an expansion to their business, F Rudd has contracted Cambridge HOK (CHOK) to oversee a 96m x 150m extension to the existing glass house facility.

The works at Castleton & Rossendale WwTW are complementary to the United Utilities (UU) Asset Management Programme 7 (AMP7) improvements project. AMP7 is a major programme of works to provide new assets, together with refurbishing and upgrading existing United Utilities assets across the region as required by the water industry regulator OFWAT (Office of Water Services) to be implemented between 2020 – 2025.

Description:

The Trafford Waters project aims to create, a new sustainable community across 53 acres of land on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal adjacent to Trafford City. The regeneration will create 3,000 new homes for 5,000 key workers, young professionals and families. It will be one of Greater Manchester’s largest mixed-use developments supported by a new school, health centre, 800,000 sq ft of commercial office and work space, convenience retail set in attractive public spaces.

TPS have worked with Balvac (a subsidiary of Balfour Beatty) to complete the compound set-ups and decommissioning associated with Various Bridge repair projects.

Description:

High Speed Two (HS2) is the Government’s proposal for a new, high speed north-south railway. The proposal is being taken forward in phases: Phase One will connect London with Birmingham and the West Midlands. Phase 2a will extend the route to Crewe. Phase 2b will extend the route to Manchester, Leeds and beyond (the ‘Proposed Scheme’).

As part of the enabling works for the above scheme. Balfour Beatty were contracted to set up several compounds across the Northwest to facilitate the site investigation works.

Description:

Stobarts Container Park in Widnes offers logistics options via Road and rail. As part of a major refurbishment to the existing park, Stobarts contracted SJP to undertake improvements to the existing container park in addition to the replacement of the existing crane beams.

Description:

Phase 2 of Protos provided road access for the new Energy Recovery Facility to be operated by Covanta and the second phase of plots of at Protos to be brought forward for development.

The infrastructure works included new access roads to adoptable standards, new nature areas to create habitats for wading birds and water voles, two new bridges, upgrading the existing canal berth onto the Manchester Ship Canal, water supply to phase 2 plots and new service infrastructure.

The South Heywood Link Road Scheme comprised the construction of a 2.2km link road from Junction 19 of the M62 motorway to the employment areas off Pilsworth Road.

An infrastructure priority for both the local council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM), the link road has provided HGV traffic from the South Heywood employment area – and its numerous logistics parks – with a dedicated route to the motorway, 17km shorter than the existing return journey, and directing HGVs away from Heywood Town Centre, Birch and other local roads.

Maritime Transport appointed Buckingham Group to complete their redevelopment scheme at Trafford Park Euroterminal, transforming it into a state-of-the-art, strategic intermodal (rail/road) interchange.

The £13.5m regeneration project involved substantive remediation of the 20-acre terminal, including repaving the container park, upgrading buildings, security, and new container handling equipment. To support increased train throughput, the container park can now store up to 4,000 TEU.

A58/ A580 Junction is located to the Northeast of St. Helens, on the main road between Manchester and Liverpool; The site is a key junction in the local roads network. As a result of traffic growth and new development in the area, the junction was exceeding capacity and the situation was predicted to get worse as new developments were proposed to be completed in the area. St Helens Council received funding to carry out junction improvement at the junction.

The junction improvement comprised of construction of new turning lanes including all associated civil infrastructure, resurfacing works to the existing junction, new and relocated footways and cycle ways, lighting column upgrades and landscaping. Statutory undertaker diversions were also carried out as part of the scheme.

Description:

Warrington Borough Council (WBC) needed to improve infrastructure, congestion and journey quality in east Warrington, and so commissioned a programme of works to improve journey times and ease congestion for vehicle traffic, reduce the overall journey times and enhance the benefits for cyclists and pedestrians.

Warrington East Phase 2 consisted of improving traffic flow in and out of the Birchwood Park Enterprise Zone, with major works planned around the Blackbrook Avenue roundabout; the College Place roundabout; and Oakwood Gate roundabout. All works were completed under Traffic management restrictions where access through the Junctions / roundabout remained open to road users.

Warrington East Phase 3 consisted of the dualling of the A574 Birchwood Way between the Moss Gate/Daten Avenue junction and M62 junction 11. The new carriageway has been constructed on land reserved for this purpose since the Northern Expressway was first built in the mid-1970s as part of the Warrington New Town highway network.

Protos is a 54-ha energy, innovation and industrial park near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, northwest England. The Phase 1 contract was for delivering over 2 km of new and improved roads, new roundabouts and new and temporary bridge structures.

Description:

The A6 Broughton Bypass eases congestion in Broughton Village, which had over twenty thousand vehicles passing through it every day. The project delivered two kilometres of new road and five junction improvements, including building a roundabout within the live carriageway and a new junction joining the M55 Junction 1 eastbound slip road.

Description:

Buckingham Group were appointed by DP World to construction three new container parks as part of the ongoing development to the London Gateway Logistics port.

Description:

The Rossall coast protection scheme replaced two kilometres of sea defences from Rossall hospital to Rossall Point, in a £63m coastal defence scheme that protects 7,500 properties from the risk of flooding. The scheme was completed in 2018, £6 million under budget.

327,000 tonnes of rock armour was used to create the base of the defences, to weather the harsh conditions on this exposed part of the coastline and allow the beach to build up in the area. Between the rock revetment and the promenade, specially manufactured precast concrete was used to form a stepped revetment to break the waves. The promenade has also been significantly widened.

An ecology park on the landward side of the defences was created and is known as Larkholme Grasslands. This strip of grassland, from West Way to Fleetwood Golf Club, is already classed as a biological heritage site because of the rarer species of flora and fauna that grow there. The area was enhanced to allow residents to enjoy the rich and diverse wildlife.

Description:

Anchorsholme Coastal Protection Scheme aims to reduce flood risk to 4,800 properties in Blackpool.

A kilometre of concrete sea wall has been replaced, maintaining access to the beach, and a new promenade attracts residents and visitors with views over the Irish Sea. The promenade also links the seafront to the nearby Anchorsholme Park, which has been redeveloped.

The scheme forms part of the Fylde Peninsula Coastal Programme, a partnership between Wyre, Blackpool and Fylde councils and the Environment Agency to reduce flood risk to people and develop historic and natural environments. Anchorsholme together with the Rossall project, forms one of the largest coast defence projects in the country.

This Car Park for Manchester Airport situated between Styal Road and Shadow Moss road commenced in February 2014 and was completed in December.

This was one of the first projects undertaken by Galliford in a new framework agreement with Manchester Airport Group. A wet autumn and early winter period had left the site sodden, causing many problems and eventually leading to the requirement for ground Stabilisation to be introduced. TPS, working in co-operation with the Stabilisation contractor successfully carried out the Earthworks, drainage and granular surfacing works throughout this period.

Working adjacent to the New Jaguar Engine factory this project was the second phase of the construction of a vital link between the new prestigious Enterprise Zone and Junction 2 of the M54.

This required building two new bridges and widening the existing canal bridge to facilitate the new link roads to the Motorway. Two large embankments were required to be constructed using existing material from the site.

As well as the new access link roads to the motorway, four additional roundabouts and associated roads were constructed at the same time.

Description:

During the construction of the Junction 2 I54 motorway link Staffordshire County Council used the opportunity to prepare a large site for future development by lime Stabilisation of the materials on site. This contract was tendered and secured separately from the main contract. TPS teamed up with Combined Soils Stabilisation Ltd provide a one stop shop for this project. This has proved successful and TPS & CSSL have worked together on several projects since.

Description:

Construction of an online roundabout on the A518 and associated link roads to the New Beacon Business Park in Stafford.

Work initially started with 278 works on the A518 all carried out under traffic management on restricted hours. This work allowed traffic flows to be maintained whilst the rest of the works were undertaken.

Alterations to drainage, excavation of new carriageway ,roundabout and spur roads were undertaken. Drainage including a twin 450mm drainage pipeline to act as flood retention system was installed. Extensive ducting ,capping, MOT, kerbs, edgings and tactile paving followed. TPS carried out all of these works on a labour, plant and materials basis. Careful segregation and handling of arisings resulted in a reduction in imported capping layer material.

Description:

Construction of 2 temporary Satellite compounds at Junctions 12 & 19 of the M60.

The compound at J12 was the smaller of the two and involved adapting and extending existing hard surfaces to form parking and cabin areas and the provision of a GRP substation including base.

The Junction 19 compound was a completely new facility with an access constructed off the existing roundabout A large vehicle parking area, cabin and welfare zone along with materials storage and waste disposal temporary storage area was constructed including earthworks shaping granular pavement foundation, drainage, ducting, paving and edgings. The works where carried out between November 2015 and March 2015 ready for the permanent construction works to commence in spring 2015.
