Description:
The A6 Broughton Bypass eases congestion in Broughton Village, which had over twenty thousand vehicles passing through it every day. The project delivered two kilometres of new road and five junction improvements, including building a roundabout within the live carriageway and a new junction joining the M55 Junction 1 eastbound slip road.
Subcontract works:
TPS were approached to tender for the earthworks and drainage packages separately, which were later awarded as a combined package through competitive tender.
TPS offered several value engineering options to Hochtief throughout the project, with TPS’s proposed capping replacement option achieving considerable savings with regard both time and cost.
Due to the size and complexity of the project, TPS were able to assist Hochtief with their setting out requirements through the use of GPS Dozers and excavators.
Despite the vast amount of change on the project due to design complications, TPS were able to deliver the project on time for Lancashire County Council’s opening date.
TPS scope of works included the following:
- All topsoil strip, topsoiling of new areas and disposal of surplus topsoil
- Excavation of cuttings, filling of embankments, compaction of fills
- Excavation of hard material and backfill with granular (6f)
- Excavation of ponds
- Clearing of ditches.
- Disposal of all surplus arisings
- Lime modification to sub formation as required
- 350mm cement & lime capping stabilization (capping replacement)
- Supply of 6f material in capping in traditional areas
- Supply and installation of road subbase
- Supply and installation of footways
- Supply and installation of all pre-earthworks and road drainage
