Anchorsholme Coastal Protection Scheme
Description:
Anchorsholme Coastal Protection Scheme aims to reduce flood risk to 4,800 properties in Blackpool.
A kilometre of concrete sea wall has been replaced, maintaining access to the beach, and a new promenade attracts residents and visitors with views over the Irish Sea. The promenade also links the seafront to the nearby Anchorsholme Park, which has been redeveloped.
The scheme forms part of the Fylde Peninsula Coastal Programme, a partnership between Wyre, Blackpool and Fylde councils and the Environment Agency to reduce flood risk to people and develop historic and natural environments. Anchorsholme together with the Rossall project, forms one of the largest coast defence projects in the country.
Subcontract works:
TPS were initially approached to tender for the main roads and promenades package, which was awarded following competitive tender. Following the successful completion of the main roads and promenade package, TPS were awarded a second Subcontract with Balfour Beatty to complete the Phase 2 headland works.
TPS scope of works included the following:
- Drainage
- Earthworks
- Breaking out existing concrete promenade
- Road subbase
- CBGM
- Kerbs & Drainage kerbs
- Footways
- Tie-ins to existing promenade
- 6N fill to new headland structure
- In-situ concrete foundations
- Installation of pre-cast concrete flood wall units
- Installation of pre-cast concrete Stem units
