Description:
This Car Park for Manchester Airport situated between Styal Road and Shadow Moss road commenced in February 2014 and was completed in December.
This was one of the first projects undertaken by Galliford in a new framework agreement with Manchester Airport Group. A wet autumn and early winter period had left the site sodden, causing many problems and eventually leading to the requirement for ground Stabilisation to be introduced. TPS, working in co-operation with the Stabilisation contractor successfully carried out the Earthworks, drainage and granular surfacing works throughout this period.
Subcontract works:
48000 m3 of topsoil strip either placed in landscape or removed from site
15000 m3 of cut material
Excavation of ponds circa 5000m3
25000 m3 in fill to make up levels
3600m of various small diameter drainage pipes
1800m of 1200mm diameter storm retention drainage pipes
85 No manholes
163,500 m2 granular surfacing to parking bays
20,000 m2 foundation to enhanced tarmac entrances and bus routes
Contract Constraints
Control of birds in aeroplane flight paths
Restricted headroom working in parts of the site
Construction of borrow pits on site to win suitable materials for filling operations.
Control of ground and surface water during construction. (No outfalls available)
