Description:
The Environment Agency and its partners are working together to develop the Preston and South Ribble Flood Risk Management Scheme (PSR FRMS). This scheme will provide flood risk mitigation for communities from Broadgate in Preston up towards Higher Walton – helping to protect around 5,000 residential properties and businesses.
Phase 2b in Penwortham, comprises of a new flood defence made up of piled flood walls and improved embankments as well as heavy duty rock amour reinforcement where required.
Subcontract works:
TPS were awarded the earthworks and drainage package via competitive tender, which involved the construction of a new clay embankment and precast concrete culvert at area 2B on the site.
After completing most of the Subcontract scope, TPS were awarded further works in the supply and installation of a rock armored revetment in front of the new flood wall.
TPS scope of works included the following:
- Site clearance
- Topsoil strip
- Excavation and re-distribution of existing embankment into temporary flood bund
- Installation of imported Class 2A material to new flood embankment
- Tie-in to Network rail embankment
- Drainage
- Installation of new twin culverts
- Supply and installation of rock armour, 6N and 175mm stone in front of the new flood wall. Working under tidal conditions
- Demolition of existing flood wall
- Disposal of unsuitable material
