Description:
Western Gateway Infrastructure Scheme (WGIS) is part of a wider project to increase road network capacity and improve transport links over the Manchester Ship Canal to support development.
Working in joint venture, Hochtief and Buckingham Group built 2km of dual carriageway from the A57 to Bridgewater Circle, improved roundabouts at junctions10 and 11 of the M60 and widened roads leading to the Trafford Centre. We also built two bridges, including a 50m lifting bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal.
Subcontract works:
The subcontract works consisted of the required earthworks along with the installation of drainage, ducting, kerbing and subbase installation to the carriageway and footways in Sections 3 & 5, to form the new highway linking the A57 to Bridgewater circle.
TPS scope of works included the following:
- Topsoil strip
- Excavation of cuttings, filling of embankments, compaction of fills
- Excavation of hard material and backfill with granular (6f5)
- Disposal of all surplus arisings
- Supply and installation of Light weight aggregate
- Supply and installation of Type 1 MOT (roads & footways)
- Drainage
- Ducting
- Kerbing
